Bike Ride and *Giveaway*
We are enjoying our new bikes. We went to a local park and rode along the bike path. We took along our new waterproof picnic blanket and a small bag of books. They fit nicely on the back of my bike with a net style bike bungee.

We saw a mama duck and her ducklings cross the path in front of us. We were able to watch them walk down the bank and get into the creek below. The ducklings started diving for their food. Hunter excitedly told me about what he saw. We love this relaxed observation method of nature study!

After a nice long ride, we set out the picnic blanket and I read to Chandler. Hunter helped Chandler sound out the title of the book, then he ran off to play while I read “Ten Apples up on Top” to Chandler.

******Now for the GIVEAWAY***** This blog is nearing 40,000 views and will get there either today or tomorrow! This Giveaway is my thank you to everyone for the support, it has been a great source of encouragement to me!!
I am giving away this beautiful book “Drawn to Nature through the Journals of Clare Walker Leslie” and a brand new waterproof picnic blanket like the one in the pictures. If you have considered keeping a nature journal, this book has plenty of inspiration. The blanket is completely waterproof –field tested by us with visible drops of water beaded on the back. The blanket is a bit on the small side, but it folds up nicely with a carry handle. You can fit two adults and two small children sitting “criss-cross applesauce” for a nice dry spot to sit with lunch in your lap. *grin* The kids can lie on the blanket with their feet hanging off. I can lie on it with my knees curled up. The top fleece-like fabric is very soft. I like the blanket so much, I thought one of you might like to have one too.
Here is how the Giveaway works: (1) Leave a comment for one entry, be sure to include your email (which is only visible to me) or check back on this blog on May 16th. (2) Share this blog on Facebook or via email and say in your comment that you are planning to share it and you will receive two chances to win. (3) Become a follower on Facebook or subscribe to this blog for another chance to win. Again, please say so in your comment that you are a follower or subscriber. Entries will end on midnight Sunday, May 15th. I will enter your name up to 3 times and one of the kids will draw on May 16th. The book and blanket will go to ONE winner.
*** Why am I asking you to share the blog and subscribe? Now that I’ve refocused the purpose of this blog to nature, living books, science and Charlotte Mason, I would like to get the word out about Charlotte Mason. It is possible to use Charlotte Mason’s methods regardless of your religion or doctrine. I hope to show that in the coming months. Also, my eldest is ready for formal lessons and his little brother is close on his heels. This blog will document our efforts toward a modern Charlotte Mason education and the fun we have along the way, maybe a little knitting too. *grin* I don’t have sponsors and this is an “ad free blog” except for the little Wordpress Google ads that I have no control over (except to pay yearly for blogging). The things I share are the things we like. The reason I do this is to promote homeschooling (and after school nature and enrichment!) and for the encouragement I find in your comments. THANK YOU!!! ***
***To find us on Facebook click on the leaf photo in the right sidebar.
If you have any questions, please let me know. This is my first Giveaway!
P.S. I did not think about international shipping. I will check into that today and let you know if I can do it.
UPDATE: I can send this internationally via First Class Mail or similar cost carrier. I hope my New Zealand friends will enter to win!!

I shared on fb and I am a follower.
Cori, this is so generous of you. The true giveaway is your blog with your inspiring posts and information. And what a BEAUTIFUL give away. I can’t pass for an opportunity to win.

And last, I already have your blog in my google reader and I’m one of your followers! DONE, for three chances!
Great giveaway! We are secular homeschoolers too. I’m interested in CM and it looks like this will be a great resource. I also ‘liked’ this page on FB. Thanks!
I’m sharing on FB. I think I’ve “Like”d you on there already and get your posts on my Newsfeed. And I’ve previously subscribed for emails of your new posts, which is how I saw this lovely post. Love the bike (again) and all your supplies for the outing bound up tight on the back. I’m inspired (again)
I think that this would be fantastic! We’re new to homeschooling. Originally I had been draw to the Classical Education model. But, that was me. Charlotte Mason is so much more my DD’s bag. These would be such a blessing to our homeschool!
I also shared your blog (and your facebook) page on facebook.
And I’ve been following you on Facebook for a few months now. Squee! Hope I win!
we are all in!! And I still want your bike…
Of course I follow you. I will try to share on FB although I don’t really know how… I’ll give it a whirl. I know other homeschool families that may like the blog.
I love all that you write about in your blog. What was the type of bike you have? Who is it made by?

I figured it out how to share on FB and I did do it! Yee Haw! I love learning new things too!!
It’s a Huffy and I got it at Walmart.
I think it’s so pretty! I keep taking pictures of it. LOL I’ll put a link to it in the post, but here it is too. Butterscotch color (isn’t that great heehee) and a “Nel Lusso.” Anyhow, I love it. It’s comfortable to ride and I can sit up straight.

Hi Cori,
I already follow your blog via Facebook but I did post your blog to the SecularCM blog and the SecularCM Facebook page. Does that count?
Yes, it counts as three entries, thank you! I’m really happy to get the word out on your Secular CM site. Thanks again.
oh, i’m glad a friend liked this. i think i’m going to love your blog!
(and that book has been on my wishlist for ages!)
and i follow you on FB now too!

I am now following you on FB too!
Cori, I am so excited to have found your site. I plan on homeschooling for the very first time this fall to my preschool-aged daughter using the Charlotte Mason method. I can’t wait to start poking around your site, and thank you so much for the opportunity to win your gorgeous giveaways!
For my second and third chances to win the giveaways, I have shared your blog via email with some friends and I’m also following you on Facebook. Thanks so much!
This giveaway is fantastic! Thanks for the opportunity.
Also ‘like’-d you on facebook. Thanks!
1.) This is my “official” comment.
2.) I shared you on Facebook.
3.) Technically (although I don’t actually *read* my reader, I follow you.
There. I’ve officially entered.
I love following your blog on facebook!
Wow! 40,000 hits – that’s marvellous. Well done you!
Karyn, you are just the person I want to talk to! Anything special that I need to know about shipping internationally? Would you mind emailing me your postal code or a code from your area, so I can check on shipping cost? I’d like to include international friends in this giveaway.
Do you suppose it depends on the country? Clueless. I wish I’d made it to our post office today…
Our post code is 4110…but it hardly matters with the whole population being just over 4 million you can get away with a house number, street address and city for NZ. LOL
I know FedEx ship here, but the costs are astronomical. Amazon gets things here cheaply (or cheap enough) but I can’t remember who they use. I guess a phone around?
The astronomical costs are what I am afraid of. :/ I’ll see what I can find out and post an update. Thanks!
Thank you, by the way.
Thanks for doing this, we love Charlotte Mason around here. I also liked your FB page and am going to share the blog on FB.
What a find! This is fabulous! It is so nice to hear about your home school journey and thank you for such a generous offer. Our family did a lot of Five In a Row books and Charlotte Mason when the kids were small. Now, I have a 13 and 15 year old. I sure miss all the fun we had when they were little but we still do a lot of picnics and nature drawing as I am an art instructor at their home school umbrella school! I will definitely share this on FB and your blog with my friends. Thank you SO much for sharing. I hope your home school journey is blessed beyond what you could ever ask or think! <3
I see I needed to check the boxes below, so will do so now. Thanks again!
Nice giveaway, I’d love a blanket like that!
I love it. You started at CM and here you return — isn’t she wonderful? We have one of her books, though that name leaves me, and both MG and I love it. Beautiful!

beautiful blog, beautiful bike, fingers crossed!
I love the blanket….it is looks very bright and cheery! I have the book….and we love it!
Funny thing is….I was at Borders today looking for some gifts for Jaden for his birthday on Saturday…..and I came across an additional book by Clare Walker Leslie called ‘The Nature Connection’, which is an outdoor workbook for Kids, Families, and Classrooms. It has three parts: How to Be a Naturalist, Learning the Sky, and Exploring Nature. What is cool about this book is that it takes some of the guess work out of things for me anyhow….because it has a section for each month and guides you along what to be looking for each month. It also has activities and pages which you could copy for multiple children or just take the main idea and write it in a notebook. I’m really excited about this book!
I’ve also been following you on FB, but I’m sure you already know that. I’m going to share this blog with my local homeschool group. I’m sure they will love what you are doing….just as much as I do!
We got “The Nature Connection” at the same time as I got Drawn to Nature!! I’m going to post about it on this blog but wanted a chance to show it to Hunter first and do a few activities. I’m thinking about cutting off the binding and having it spiral bound to lie flat. But a friend told me you can print the drawing pages on the website… Anyhow I have more to look into but I love the book so far! Thanks for sharing the blog. xoxo sofmh Cori
This is so what we are doing right now! It has finally stopped raining, and my daughter and I have learned to ride, and we are riding on trails through the woods instead of trying to do school indoors. Please enter me!

All the way over in NZ.
Hi! Me and my boys love nature! We try to be outside as much as possible. My boys are almost 5 and 7… Until now I haven’t had much of a moment to even think about writing a journal! I’m thinking about starting one now. My oldest expresses interest in journalism. He can’t write or read yet, but had a 3-ring binder if leaves, stuff and pictures he collects for his “Nature” journal.
Love your site and I hope I am a winner.
I am now a follower on FB and I subscribed to your site. I will also share your site on FB!!!

Hi, I’m Wendy
I believe I’m late for the give away but I think just finding your blog is prize enough. I have a 3 yr old that I just started homeschooling and its a learning experience. Watching my daughter learn and grow is so rewarding. Even when I don’t think she’s picking up on things, she proves me wrong days or weeks later. She amazes me.
You have a new follower!
Thank you! Nice to “meet” you.
