Winter Knitting
I finished the Nutter Butter Bunny that I started last winter, finished the bobble blanket for my nephew, learned the smock stitch to make a slouch hat, learned how to knit comfortably with the continental method (yarn in left hand), and learned how to do fair isle and catch the floaters. A few days ago, Chandler sat in my lap and learned to knit. It was very sweet. Currently, I’m in the middle of my first sweater.
I learned how to knit in October 2010 with a video called The Art of Knitting 4 Kids. Then I learned the other stitches by searching for pattern abbreviations on knittinghelp.com — also a few youtube videos, and plenty of trial and error too. Sometimes all you need to know is the keywords to search for the videos, like “catching floaters” for Fair Isle, then something that seems difficult is much easier to learn.
The ladies at the knit night at a local yarn shop called me a fearless knitter. I’ve gone to their knit nights a couple of times now and really enjoy it. I needed to learn at home where it is quieter, but it’s really fun to be a social knitter even if I make more mistakes while I’m there. I think the reason I am a fearless knitter is because I really don’t mind pulling it out. Reclaiming yarn is fun too.
Smock stitch slouch hat on me. I wear it nearly every day.
Finished the bobble blanket for my nephew.
Another smock stitch slouch hat.
Larger teddy bear (about 12 inches tall) for Hunter.
First time knitting fair isle — Norwegian Star hat for Hunter.
I made this fair isle handbag for a friend.
Five year old Chandler sat in my lap and learned to knit.
In the middle of my first sweater.

Oh, the bag is gorgeous (well, it all is!). I love the bunny!!
Thanks Jessica!
Do you have a pattern for you slouch hat? I really love it and would like to make one.
Hi Christal, Here is the pattern on Ravelry. For my hat, I started the decreases a round after I finished the increases. It was too slouchy for me with the extra rounds in the pattern. My gauge was a bit bigger than the pattern too.
